Friday September 1 Loughborough University. Emily competed at her 4th School Games in perfect weather conditions. After meeting up with the team and traveling to Loughborough on Thursday she attended the opening ceremony on Thursday evening . Up early on Friday Emily prepared for he first event the shot put at 11am. We had traveled first thing Friday to get there for the competition and met friends to watch the competition.
Emilys first throw was a good marker for what came later on. In total 6 throws with a best of 8.53m. An anxious wait to confirm that was the 2017 UK School Games champion. Emily received her gold medal from Rio 100m Paralympic gold medalist Sophie Hann.
Next up the 200m at 3pm. There was four girls in the race all with different classifications which obviously meant one girl had to miss out on a medal. On paper Emily had the fastest 200m time but with the rasa points scoring system didn’t really mean anything. You could win the race but finish 4th with the system. As it happened Emily got off to a flyer and a great bend and a strong finish to actually come across the line in a close second place. We just had to wait until the points were counted up. News came through nthat Emily had claimed the bronze medal and we were exstatic. A great result and a hard earned medal.
Like I said earlier it was Emily’s 4th games and she has claimed 6 medals now, 2 gold, 3 silver and a bronze medal , a full set if you like. You don’t get these medals just handed to you.You have to work and train hard all year in the hope that you will be selected by team management. Again very proud parents.
